Party: SUP Club – Windy Wednesday (II)

Of course, this year the first SUP Club of August was bound to see some weather! That breeze is forecast to get stronger tonight too, but we're also expecting the sun to come out so it should turn out a lovely evening. And up on the river the water's not a problem, so it just means a bit more effort on the way out and a joyride home! Meeting at 6.45pm for a 7pm launch at Mill House (by the Church Road bridge, just beyond CM3 4BG – see www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z9N9RqIZx2PM.kL-b5kgjhXP8&usp=sharing) all comers are very welcome, just be prepared to work into the wind at times. We're expecting to string out a little tonight, so we'll play it a bit different to normal – the raceboarders can get their heads down and go if they want to, maybe even four locks west beyond the A12 this time to turn at Sandford Lock (or 8pm, whichever comes first) for a 9km loop, sweeping everyone else up on their way back (so just turn when you see people coming back towards you). We'd expect everyone will make at least Cuton Lock for 6km (and of course no-one will be left behind; we won't all be up front!) then with a tailwind and flow we should all hit a similar pace coming home. And theory is we'll make the Six Bells well before they finish serving dinner at 9.30pm. (We'll let them know we're coming, so the kitchen should stay open!) Hire kit is available to anyone that can paddle for £25 as normal from Jamie – just email [email protected] or call 07971 830087 to reserve a board.
