We also have Big Family Blues from Kolkata playing live music to keep you entertained.
Big Family Blues played their first gig in February, 2013, in Kolkata, at Princeton, Jamsteady. The turnout was a full house and the music was very well received. The band has been playing the city circuit extensively since then and has developed a strong fan-base. Currently focused on writing their material, the band is recording its first album.
They had the honour to host a tribute gig for the blues legend, BB King – where they performed in a fully-packed house at Thursday Jazz Encounter, Plush. They have played at all venues in the city and are now looking to travel with the music. Eminent musicians from across the country will be playing on their debut album. (Ehsaan Noorani, Rudy Wallang and Amyt Dutta – all Fender artists)
The band members are:
Rupsha, vocals: Her first ‘band’ experience. One would never know if that is truly the case! A natural performer, her vocal range is absolutely stunning and she possesses the poise of a seasoned veteran.
Premjit, drums: He is a veteran of the city. He has played at many prestigious venues across the country and abroad as well. He is the backbone of the band – keeping the shuffle tight and groovy.
Rohan, guitar/backing vocals: He has been playing music professionally for over a decade. He is a Fender artist. A traditional-modernist in his approach, he keeps the rhythm and melody going! He has played nationally as well as internationally over the years, as a professional musician.
Bijit, bass guitar: Handling the lower frequencies and the pulse of the band is Bijit. He has been playing professionally for close to a decade and has performed nationally as well as internationally, garnering experience and honing his craft.
Arunava, keyboard: He is the quiet one, but his silence is side-lined once he starts playing. He has the jazz background, so he makes the palette richer – harmonically and musically. He has been playing professionally for over a decade and has a huge contribution to the sound of the band.
Mickey, blues harp: The only non-resident member of the band. He lives in Canada and visits India, every winter. When here, he is regular with the band and plays blues-harp as though he possesses the soul of an old blues man.
