ANZAC Day on 25th April 2015 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the first landings on Gallipoli. Our community will come together in commemoration to honour our fallen and our current and former service personnel.
This most significant ANZAC Day begins with a traditional Dawn Service. Form up commences at 3.30am from Short Street for 4.30am march to ANZAC Park for the 5am service. This service is a formal tribute to our ANZACs and we expect to see a crowd of close to 10,000 people. Following the Dawn Service, the Memorial club on Scarborough Street will provide a traditional Gunfire Breakfast from 5.30am in the Pacific Star Auditorium. Gold Coin Donation for non-service personnel.
The Citizens Service will commence with 7am form up from Short Street for 8am march to ANZAC Park for the 9am service. We expect a crowd in excess of 12,000 at this years service, which will be held under large marquees with seating available. A crowd of this magnitude put into perspective is equal to that of up to around 15 battalions. Up to 4000 participants are expected to march and the salute will be taken by the Mayor Mr Tom Tate in the company of a Senior Army Officer and Councillor Dawn Crichlow.
It is important to note that whilst this service encompasses cultural celebrations, it is NOT a concert as the performers seek to set the mood with a joint purpose of observing tradition and custom whilst honouring those fallen and to also our show support to our current and past service personnel
RSL Club Southport will re-open the upstairs auditorium from 10.00am with the biggest Two-Up on the Gold Coast commencing at 12.00pm, great live entertainment throughout the day with Route 66 performing from 1pm and Champagne Jam from 5.30pm. 102.9 Hot Tomato will be broadcasting live from the auditorium from 12pm and will have plenty of promotions and giveaways to present.
While 2015 marks the 100th Anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli, it is also the day in which we remember Australian’s and New Zealander’s who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. It is in this spirit of ANZAC, we remember and celebrate courage, mateship, and sacrifice.
All proceeds from the day are donated to the Southport RSL Veterans’ Support Centre for local community welfare of Veterans and their families. LEST WE FORGET.
