Phil Emmanuel is known as Australia’s Greatest Electric Guitar Player and has a resume of amazing performances with musical legends that any musical enthusiast would envy.
2000 saw him performing to a worldwide audience of 4.5 billion at the Closing Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics with brother Tommy, INXS, VANESSA AMOROSI, SAVAGE GARDEN & MIDNIGHT OIL, but it was the beginning of the ‘forgotten’ son’s return to the limelight and recognition that he so undeniably deserves.
To ask Phil who his personal favourite performers are that he has graced the stage with, reads like a who’s who of the Music Industry. The list is endless which matches the talents of an artist that has been thrilling audiences worldwide since his teenage years. Phil’s personal favourites – sharing the same stage as legendary guitarists John Jorgensen (Elton John, The Hellecasters), Will Ray (The Hellecasters), Bonnie Raitt, Duanne Eddy, James Burton, (Elvis Presley), Carlos Santana, ‘America’, The Ventures and Eric Clapton at NAMM in the United States in July 2000. This must be a dream come true for any guitarist.
His second tour of Europe in 2000 was also a highlight. Phil was invited to headline ISSENDEN, the worlds’ largest guitar festival. Following this he set off on a brief tour of Europe before heading home for a tour of outback Queensland and a well earned rest with his family over the Christmas holidays.
After almost 50 years of hard work, Phil is finally receiving Australian and worldwide recognition as one of our finest musical talents. His versatility is well known and acknowledged – obvious from the shows, and the musicians he has performed alongside, from Jazz – James Morrison, Don Burrows to big-band – Ed Wilson, the Royal Military College Band, to Country – Slim Dusty, Lee Kernaghan, Dolly Parton, to rock and blues – Jimmy Barnes, Roy Buchanan, Don Walker, John Farnham and Ian Moss.
Phil has recently reformed the new and improved PHIL EMMANUEL BAND to play a variety of shows up and down the East Coast of Australia in 2009 and 2010. Phil and his band play a wide range of guitar oriented music ranging from their own interpretation of Chariots Of Fire to Santana’s Black Magic Woman plus a bit of country, rock, classical to ballads. Their target audience age is 18 to 80 so there is something for all ages, plus a lot of pieces most bands anywhere in the world would not even attempt. The future is looking bright for Phil Emmanuel and his multi talented band. Currently on the agenda is a myriad of shows for the fans who have been aching to see him play for too long.
Phil is currently working with Ice Management & Productions to get back into the touring world – reinstating him as the guitar legend he was once so widely recognised as. Phil is currently working on his first studio album in over a decade, due for release in early 2010. 2010 will also see him embarking on a two month tour with daughter Jesse Emmanuel to promote this album as well as Jesse’s debut album all along the East Coast. Keep an eye on this page for dates! Phil is also appearing on Jesse’s pop/country-esque album, aptly named ‘DON’T TOUCH MY GUITAR’, lending her his amazing skills on most of the album’s tracks. The lead single from Jesse’s album is available for listening on this page, and for more previews of Jesse & Phil’s collaborative efforts, visit www.myspace.com/jesseemmanuelmusic.
2010 will also mark the 50th Anniversary of Phil & brother Tommy’s musical careers, and as such, the fans are finally going to get what they have been begging for for so long – a reunion. Tommy & Phil will be embarking on a nationwide tour to celebrate their 5 decades of success and will be inviting some very special guests to join them along the way.
Phil Emmanuel is well & truly back in the Aussie music scene, and will be appearing at a venue near you soon enough – believe the hype – this man has to be seen to be believed.
