Soul Mechanic
Soul Mechanic is a unique ensemble compiled of seasoned and schooled musicians, whose journey propels them through harmonies, melodies and intricate funk-inspired jam music rhythms.
The trip began in 2009 when college students Tyler Reddick and Clark Jackson decided to proclaim their ode’ to funk. Singer and bassist Tyler Reddick studied music at Chattanoooga State and brings a creative funk outlook to the band. Clark Jackson is a graduate from The Atlanta Institute of Music, being a college athlete before a musician, he brings the intensity from the field to the stage. The band started as a four piece with a supporting cast of musicians such as Ben Cooper, Yattie Westfield, and Tyler Wright. After three years of finding their sound they finally found THE group in long time friends William English and Kyle Kinzalow, who were members of the previous endeavor Dose Mojo. William and Kyle decided after a jam session that they wanted to make Soul Mechanic their full-time job. William English had been playing guitar for over 16 years at the time and was a self-taught phenom. Kyle Kinzalow performed in several bands before Dose Mojo, but finally found the style that he was looking for with William, Tyler, and Clark. When Florida State graduate Jessica Nunn moved from Tallahassee to Chattanooga, things really started to heat up for Soul Mechanic. She teamed up with the squad and her experience added a whole new level to the already driven Soul Mechanic. The newest edition is Jeff McSpadden, a former student and teacher at several independent percussion ensembles. This beast of a percussionist carried over a great vibe from the after-party specialist’s Afro and has contributed greatly since his debut.
Recently, Soul Mechanic has elevated their ranks with big performances at Chattanooga’s very own “Riverfront Nights” and the fast growing Fly Free Festival. On the come-up, they’ve played several sold-out after-parties for groups such as Widespread Panic, M.O.E., and Sublime with Rome. This band is hungry and has the potential to be on a major national tour in the near future.
